61. Truth & Decisions YILEYNA My head was screaming with agony when | woke up. | looked around, realising | was in the cabin, on the floor in the kitchen area. A few bottles of wine lay scattered on the floor, and my entire body was aching.

What happened last night? | remembered crying but then | had gone to the spot Theon had toldto wait for him. I just... | had needed to see what he’d say, if anything. | waited until twelve, for two hours | waited in the cold, promising myself that if he didn’t ctoday, | would truly never forgive him, and he didn’t.

He hadn't come.

I was a fool to think he would.

But wasn’t that exactly what | was? | was always foolish when it cto Theon. | pressed a hand to my forehead, feeling broken.

| got to my feet, running my fingers through my hair. What twas it anyway? The pain of last night was still there, but the throbbing in my head was overpowering it and | welcomed it. It was then that my heart began pounding when | realised the entire cabin was covered in a layer of frost. Right beneath where | lay a thick white layer of ice was spreading outwards. “What on Kaeladia...” | murmured.

Did | do this? | got up and rushed to the door to unlock it, but it was stuck, | had to give it a hard push before it opened, and | stared outside.

It was far worse than what | was expecting. It was obvious yesterday's storm had been far worse. The snow which had covered the ground was now entirely frozen, and everything as far as | could see was covered in ice.

The trees were coated with ice as long icicles hanging off them. | stared at the snow right outside the steps of the cabin. My stomach lurched as | stared at the ice that paved as far as | could see. Solid ice.

Was it crazy that deep down | felt like | did that? 2 | shut and locked the cabin door, staring at the frost that covered the table, the worktops... the walls... the logs in the fire...

My heart was thundering.

| close my eyes, trying to focus on something, but | didn’t even know where to pull my abilities from... There was something in me, | was sure of that. After all, Theon saw that himself...

After several minutes, | gave up and decided | needed to just heat the place up. | sighed heavily as | gulped the drink | had prepared, before adding a few extra logs to the already blazing fire and went to shower. Once | was done, | cleaned the place up, not wanting it to smell of alcohol. Every corner of this cabin held memories of Theon, and as I cleaned, | realised what | needed to do.

| wouldn't accept anything from him. Not this place, not with his help or sympathy.

From this day forth, | needed to just step away from him in every way, and | really can’t keep saying this. 2/5 Two hours later, | had finished cleaning, gotten dressed, and was packing my things. | would find somewhere else to stay from today onwards. | was bundling up the last of my beauty products, such as my shampoo, soap, and stuff, when there was a knock on the door. | tensed, my heart thumping as | wondered who it would be. The first person who cto my mind was Theon, but he wouldn't chere.

Taking a deep breath, | looked in the mirror first.

Staring back atwas a girl with slightly reddened eyes, a pale face, and her hair knotted in a messy bun atop her head. | looked ok, | guess. | walked over to the door and unlocked it.

My heart skipped a beat to see that it was none other than Charlene standing there. She looked... worse than | did. Her eyes were red and tired. Her hair hadn't been combed because, unlikewho could get away without combing it, Charlene couldn’t. But the most noticeable thing was the guilt and regret in her eyes. | smiled softly at her, stepping out into the cold. | hugged her tightly. She didn’t know | knew, but | knew why she was here. She had cto tellwhat happened. “Yileyna.” She whispered, before huggingtightly. “Charlene, why did you cout here in this weather?” | asked softly, tugging her into the warmth of the cabin.

| had mopped up the water and it looked rather presentable, despite the pile of boxes that were gathered in the centre of the room.

“There was a dangerous storm last night, but it’s gone today, even the snow has stopped.” She said shutting the door slowly as she glanced around the cabin, looking at the boxes.” You're leaving.” 1 I smiled and nodded leading her to the kitchen chair as the sofa was still wet.

You were right Charlene; all he does is hurtand | really don’t need him in my life.” She didn't reply, staring at her hands in her lap.

“Yileyna, there's something | need to tell you.” Her voice was low and full of pain. My heart skipped a beat, and | crouched down before her. “Tell me, my queen.” | whispered encouragingly. “My father asked Theon to takeas his chosen mate, so he can take the place as the next Alpha... because the kingdom needs someone capable...” | frowned, my stomach sinking. That's what he meant... the world should know we are to be mated...

“I don’t know, but | found out the day Theon returned to the castle.” My heart clenched, the day he didn’t plan to return. He ended it withand decided to take my friend as his chosen mate.

“And... are you ok with that?” | asked her gently, giving her a warm smile. She looked confused before her eyes flashed. “No. Even if there were sfeelings there, and there isn’t! | promise! | wouldn't, because once he took you as his woman that was it.” She said, her eyes full of determination and stubbornness. Her words filled my heart with warmth, at least | had my friend. 1 | smiled gently.

“He's... harsh... and callhypocritical, but you deserve someone who loves you for you, not your title. As for him getting the Alpha title... Yesterday after talking to you, | wanted to try to talk sense into him, | know that he cares for you, and he... he...” She swallowed, and | gave her hands a gentle squeeze as | stood up slowly. “He kissed you to prove his point. | know and it’s ok, it was him and... we aren't together anymore anyway.” | said quietly. Realisation dawned on her and she jumped up from her seat.

However, Charlene stuck with Theon would be... terrifying. Unless he treated her better, but after everything, | had lost faith in him, and his hatred for Charlene was so strong.
